Event description

Description

Mental health problems among employees are becoming an increasingly common issue in the workplace, and many employers don’t know how to deal with the legal issues which can stem from this.

During this seminar we will look at when mental illness can amount to a disability under employment law and what duties employers have to make reasonable adjustments to support disabled employees. We will provide practical guidance on the most important aspects of disability discrimination in the workplace, including:

- Insight into when mental health issues (including work-related stress) can amount to a disability under employment law

- Practical advice for identifying, supporting and managing employees with mental health problems

- Considering the different types of disability discrimination and the legal ramifications employers can face when they take the wrong approach

- The key “dos” and “don’ts” to help avoid disability discrimination in the workplace, including the duty to make reasonable adjustments

- Guidance on managing attendance and performance issues

- The importance of engaging with Occupational Health and other medical professionals
