6 pm refreshments and networking, with the event starting promptly at 6.30 pm and finishing around 8.30 - 9.00 pm

This session will be led by Jane Biddlecombe, an experienced Solicitor specialising in employment law at Paris Smith LLP.  Jane will first deliver a general update on recent case law then focus on two topical issues - avoiding harassment claims in the workplace and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).  In addition, Jane will also include a short update on the rights of EU nationals post-Brexit, reviewing what information has recently been published following the Government's update on its initial proposals last Summer.

Our speaker

Jane Biddlecombe, Solicitor at Paris Smith LLP.

Jane specialises in employment and immigration law, working with a variety of clients from small owner-managed businesses to large national companies.  She advises on all aspects of employment law including employment contracts and policies; poor performance and disciplinary issues; discrimination; redundancies; TUPE; settlement agreements; Tribunal claims and all immigration issues.

Professional photography and video production may be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.


Is there parking at the venue?

No parking available on site.  The nearest car parking can be found behind Marks and Spencer where parking is free after 1800.  The White Hart Hotel is a short, two minute walk from there.

What refreshments will be on offer?

Light buffet refreshments, including tea and coffee, will be available between 6 and 6.30 pm, prior to the start of the session.

What should I do if I book a place but later find I cannot attend?

We recognise that diaries are busy and that things do crop up at the last minute.  If you need to cancel - however late in the day - please let us know simply by sending a short email to the Wessex Branch Administrator.

What is the refund policy for paid tickets?

We normally operate a two-week (ie 14 day) cut-off date for ticket cancellations leading to a refund.

How do you use the personal information I provide when registering?

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is a data controller, registered with the Information Commissions Office as required under the Data Protection Act 1998.  The CIPD is committed to protecting your privacy and will not share your personal information with third parties without your permission.  However, when entering in an event that is advertised on the Eventbrite website you will be consenting to your information being passed to the Event Organiser for them to use for the purposes of organising and running the event.  CIPD may also wish to process your personal information in connection with a variety of activities which may include the marketing and promotion of our services and the administration of files and records.  CIPD will only process your data in accordance with current data protection legislation.  The Event Organiser undertakes not to share that information with third parties.

If you do not wish the Event Organiser to use your information in this way please tick the relevant box on the Registration Form when you complete it.  If you have no objections to us using your personal data for security, admission and event administration purposes only, then leave this box blank.

What are the implications for me of witholding consent for the Event Organiser to use my personal data in the way described above?

The decision about whether or not to withold consent is an entirely individual one.  However, if you withold consent then you will be counted in the overall number of people attending the event for which you have signed up, but your name will be excluded from the participant list that is sent to the Event Co-ordinator for registration purposes on the night.
