Our speakers and sponsors

James Humphery, Trethowans' Senior Solicitor, Employment and Immigration and Simon Rhodes, Trethowans' Senior Partner and Head of Employment.

James is a highly experienced employment lawyer, a CEDR-accredited mediator and Trethowans' immigration expert. His work is grounded in HR support and informed by his experience of taking and defending actions in the Employment Tribunal, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the Courts.  Notable highlights from James' back catalogue include providing legal support to an international HR team managing a project involving three TUPE transfers and 400 collective redundancies.  The project was delivered ahead of schedule with no adverse claims and the client’s reputation enhanced.  James has also devised innovative restrictive covenants for a corporate client which were subsequently adopted by another player in the same industry as its own standard.  In his immigration practice, James supports businesses with strategic advice on regulatory compliance and practical guidance on individual applications.

Simon is a vastly experienced employment lawyer and regularly advises a wide range of employer clients including multi-nationals, national brands and plc's.
Simon has a wealth of experience across all market sectors and specialises in advising employers on recruitment and terminations, TUPE, disputes involving restrictive covenants, collective redundancies and discrimination.  Simon is well known for giving practical risk-focused advice. If issues become difficult and contentious, then Simon comes into his own. He is described by Chambers (2017) as someone who “instils confidence and trust”.  Simon is ranked in Band 1 for his expertise in both contentious and non-contentious employment issues and is praised for his commercial approach.
