Event Details

Join us for registration, lunch and informal networking from 1200.

The event will start at 1300 and end at approximately 1600* (please note the end time is dependent on volume of questions).

We are thankful to our Scarborough Regional Partners Castle Employment for hosting this event.

Our programme for this event is:

1300-1315: Everyone Active, a brief introduction

Chris Hughff, Sales Manager at Everyone Active, will give delegates a brief overview of the Sports Village and discuss the importance of employee nutrition, hydration, cortisol response (stress) and how it can affect your workplace.

1315-1500: Employment Law Update with Torque Law

The World of Employment Law is fast paced, often changing daily and most certainly weekly. The impact of these changes, whether it be relating to employment status, unfair dismissal, GDPR, discrimination or one of the many other areas that impact on HR Practice, is often significant and getting it wrong can be extremely costly, not just in terms of financial cost, but business cost and ultimately reputational cost.

This session Torque Law will give practical tips and hints based on recent employment law developments and what to expect during the rest of 2018. They will also explore some of the significant case law that has impacted HR Practice over the last 12 months and in particular will look at the commercial effects and how these can be addressed for the benefit of your business.

1500-1515: Break

1515-1600: How engaged are your team? with Michelle Mook

As your business grows, focus on people becomes ever more important. With the cost of replacing an employee now equating to 12-18 months of their salary, businesses cannot afford to lose their key talent. The UK economy is also suffering due to a lack of productivity in the UK. Output per hour is 16% lower than other G7 countries and a French, US or German worker produces more in 4 days than a UK worker can produce in 5!

Whether you are looking to recruit in the future or already have a number of employees, Michelle Mook will help you to identify how you can release more of the capability and potential of the people you work with and your business. Michelle will discusspractical ways in which you can improve your employee engagement and support the continued success and growth of your business.

1600: Close

This is a free event for both CIPD and non-CIPD Members. Business Owners/Managers are very welcome to book. Early booking recommended as our events are often fully subscribed.

This event is free to attend, however, we do reserve the right to charge a £10 no-show fee for those who are unable to attend who do not contact us with apologies (except in exceptional circumstances).

All of our branch events are organised by volunteers who give up their time freely to provide CPD opportunities for others in North Yorkshire, events are funded through branch funds, and our speakers (who at most receive expenses only) give up their time freely to prepare and present their sessions. With this in mind, if you do book on an event and find you’re no longer able to attend – please email and give your apologies to those involved with the event – we really do appreciate this, especially in advance where possible as this might allow us to avoid catering wasteage, but if it’s an unavoidable last minute cancellation we’d still like to hear from you.
