A quick round up of employment law changes which will be of interest to HR professionals, a chance to discuss a few case studies and put questions Camilla and her team.
Camilla Beamish is an Associate in the Employment team at Cripps LLP with 9 years' experience in employment law.
She handles a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters and has a particular interest in employment tribunal litigation. Camilla advises on disciplinary, grievance and dismissal proceedings, TUPE, discrimination and redundancy.
A notable recent case that Camilla has been involved with was advising a Local Authority client in relation to a complex discrimination and whistleblowing claim in which the claimant was seeking circa £800,000 in compensation.
Camilla is married and has young twin boys who take up most of her time outside work. Camilla enjoys skiing, formula 1 motor racing and eating out.
Chris Hovenden is a solicitor in the Employment Law team at Cripps LLP.
He trained at Vizards Wyeth, qualifying in April 2011, before spending four years as an in-house employment lawyer for the Discovery Channel.
During his time at the Discovery Channel Chris advised on a wide range of employment law matters, often involving multiple jurisdictions.
More recently he worked as a journalist for Time Inc.'s cycling titles, although the allure of returning to the legal world proved too strong.
Definitely not your stereotypical lawyer, Chris utilises his unique background to provide clear and commercial advice to his clients.
Chris is married, is a passionate sportsman and enjoys both playing and listening to jazz.

When & Where
CIPD Kent Branch
We are the Kent branch of CIPD - the professional body for HR and people development. The not-for-profit organisation champions better work and working lives and has been setting the benchmark for excellence in people and organisation development for more than 100 years.
We have a wide range of organisations and CIPD membership and we respond to this with a full selection of CPD and networking opportunities.
Due to the geographical spread of the county we have 3 area groups – Mid Kent, West Kent and East Kent. Between them they regularly hold sessions with guest speakers on subjects requested by the members. Most events are supported by local companies who host the events and provide an opportunity to meet other HR practitioners.
We also appreciate the specialisms within HR and have Special Interest Groups that meet regularly and occasionally have speakers. These groups include Health and Social Care and Senior Practitioners. Similarly we have smaller bespoke groups, Self Managed Learning Groups that operate throughout the county. These include the Coaching Groups in East Kent and West Kent. We encourage the creation of new groups so if there is not an area covered, why not set one up?
Come along to an event and meet our friendly and welcoming committee members and the wonderful HR community of Kent!
