Employment Law Update
Event Information
Description
The fast changing world of employment law remains a challenge for us all and we are therefore delighted to welcome back Kirk Tudhope of Ledingham Chalmers Employment Team to provide clear and pragmatic guidance in their latest update for Lochaber Chamber members.
Kirk heads the Ledingham Chalmers employment team and is based in Inverness. He is the only Law Society accredited specialist in employment law in the Highlands. He is also recommended in the two leading guides to the legal profession, Chambers and Legal 500.
This Employment Law event is aimed at businesses of any size and should be particularly useful for business owners, managers and everyone whose role includes HR issues. Those who attend will benefit from being better able to deal fairly, and where necessarily robustly, with many of the typical challenges which arise within the day to day workplace.
Kirk will review developments in Employment Law over the first half of 2018 with the focus on the practical impact on businesses.
Topics likely to come up include:
Harassment in the workplace
We will look at the definition of harassment, the potential tribunal awards and what you can do to protect your business.
Discipline
Is a zero tolerance approach to discpline advisable?
Privacy
Should employers read employee's work emails? This and other issues of privacy at work will be discussed.
Fees
The abolition of tribunal fees may seem like a gift to some but employers may correctly fear they are far more likely to be sued. We review whether this should be reflected in how employers handle workplace grievances and disciplinary concerns.
6. GDPR
The new data protection regime (the GDPR) will impact on all employers in May 2018. We ask what preparation is required and look at the key things we should all now be doing to make sure we are complying.
Breakfast with benefits
Everyone attending will be better placed to deal with the challenges that arise in the workplace and will have a good understanding of trends in employment law. There will also be a delicious breakfast buffet available, and plenty of time to network.
