Employment Law Update

Martin Williams and Sam Dickinson from Mayo Wynne Baxter are both extremely experienced at providing lively and informative seminars. This session will be no exception.

With the Supreme Court finding that the fees regime in the employment tribunal was unlawful there is the prospect of the number of claims increasing. With this in mind HR professionals will have to be extra vigilant when advising employers. This seminar will aim to refresh and recharge you in how to run a smooth disciplinary process in order to reduce the risk of a claim being made after any necessary dismissal. Discrimination is a perennial issue and the seminar will give guidance on how to spot and respond to it, no matter what form it takes. Employment status continues to be a matter of debate and Sam and Martin will provide the latest news and views. They will also hold a question and answer session on any other burning topics that are important to you. Questions can be submitted in advance or on the day.

About the speakers:

Martin Williams is a Partner and Head of Employment at Mayo Wynne Baxter

However, he started his working life in the arts working for 12 years as a manager of orchestras. The subsequent switch to employment lawyer may seem a big shift but there is no experience like working with touring musicians to prepare you for all sorts of personnel issues. He was also involved in collective bargaining negotiations when working in New York. Martin has gained a wealth of experience dealing with all aspects of employment and loves the variety this area of law provides.

Sam Dickinson is also a Partner at Mayo Wynne Baxter

Sam joined the firm in January 2015 as an Associate Solicitor and was made a Partner in April 2017. She represents both employers and employees at employment tribunal hearings but prefers to keep her clients out of court whenever possible. Sam is also highly adept at dealing with non-contentious matters such as drafting and negotiation and she advises a number of local and national commercial organisations by way of fixed fee annual retainers.

A light buffet and refreshments will be provided..

This event is free of charge for CIPD members, although booking is essential. There is a charge of £25 for non-members . (please note that refunds will not be issued less than 10 days prior to this event).
