Event description:
Local and Combined Authorities will play a crucial role in delivering Labour's housing goals. From 1.5 million homes to a generational boost to social and affordable housing, to enforcing the crucial new regulations in the private rental sector and building safety, Labour mayors and councillors have a vital part to play in delivering Labour's housing goals.
With the English Devolution Bill expanding the ability of mayors to plan for housing in their areas, and calls for new powers and funding in other areas, the potential of devolution to drive forward this agenda is considerable.
This event will explore the following questions:
- What role do Labour Local and Combined Authorities have in delivering the Government's housing mission?
- How will the English Devolution Bill empower local and regional leaders to drive forward the housing agenda?
- Do further powers need devolving to ensure that councils and mayors have the tools they need?
- What else needs to change in funding and institutional cultures to ensure that local leaders are equipped to deliver change?
Format:
The event will begin with 5-7 minute contributions from the panellists, followed by some questions from the chair, and a short Q&A from the audience, collected in batches of three. The event will finish promptly at 10:30am.
