Event Details

“ PSED & PEDAGOGY: Enabling young children to thrive and learn. Supporting the development of effective socio-emotional and cognitive skills, through enabling resilience, cultivating confidence & forming secure relationships in order to improve positive outcomes.”

Led by experienced Early Years Teacher Hannah O’Donnell (BA Hons - Psych, EYT, Pg Dip (Early Years),  this new- updated 2 hour twighlight professional workshop looks at the importance of supporting and enabling the effective psychological and socio-emotional skill development of babies and young children, through enhanced provision and practice, in order to ensure more positive cognitive and psychosocial outcomes for young children in all areas of their education & development.

It incorporates recent research into the impact of facilitating effective cognitive self-regulation skill development, in order to allow children to build up resilience, emotional intelligence, behavioural self regulation skills and subsequent higher level cognitive skills – such as working memory, attention and problem solving, which can directly impact upon their effective development as learners.

Course Synopsis:

What will Early Years practitioners, teachers & those working with 0-5 age group get out of this workshop?

  • Simple explanations of essential higher level cognitive and psycho-emotional developmental processes in 0-5’s and how negative factors such as ‘toxic stress’ or under-development in these skill areas (such as sensory processing disorder) manifest themselves in behaviour, attainment and wellbeing terms; moreover, how these directly link to future outcomes and areas of Early Education (in terms of resilience, ability and willingness to learn and effects upon core skills such as emergent literacy/ reading and writing).
  • šIdeas for simple, cost-effective, engaging enhancements to core play provision areas and key practice in order to close the gap in emotional skills development and improve resilience, coping behaviours, growth mindset thinking and positive mental health outcomes for all children as enthusiastic and well-equipped learners.
  • An opportunity to reflect upon & apply research into practice/ the learning environment, including recent attachment theory findings & the learning relationship and supporting key psycho-emotional life skills development in young children.

PLEASE NOTE - spaces are limited for this session and on a first come first booked basis.
