Young people and work - empowering employers for a more inclusive workforce

About this event

Employers, are you looking for new skills? Do you want to make a difference in a young person's life?

We invite you to come and learn about the strengths and talents of young people currently not in employment, as well as their barriers and how you as a business can benefit by offering opportunities.

More about the event:

The number of young people not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) has risen dramatically over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many young people face barriers such as social anxiety and mental health issues which has only been magnified by the current climate.

However, each person has individual talents and strengths no matter their background, and with support and opportunities they can thrive in a workplace.

Using real life stories this workshop will show what young people can offer and how businesses, with simple adjustments, can benefit from a more inclusive workforce.

Attendees of the workshops so far have said...

"Learning about NEET and the increased numbers of NEET out of work due to Covid was very interesting.”

And that they had “Better awareness of organisations offering support to employers and help with placements.”

Attendees also said they were more likely to offer young people who are NEET opportunities after attending the workshop.

This free 1 hour workshop will give you a better understanding of:

• Young People who are not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and their perceptions of work

• The challenges they face and how covid-19 has impacted young people, but also their potential and diverse skillsets

• How your business and community can benefit by offering opportunities for local young people

• Resources to support you, including the Government’s Access to Work scheme and how you can utilise it

• How we can view disability differently using the Social model of Disability

There will also be time for questions and more information on the projects supporting young people in Devon and how your business can get involved.

Workshops will be held on Zoom. You will receive a Zoom link via email prior to the event.

These workshops are delivered as part of Devon-wide mentoring projects Experience Works and Empowering Enterprise which support young people who are Not in Education Employment or Training (NEET) to equip them with skills for life and work, giving them the confidence to find a path to a brighter future.
