Want to see how engineering and innovation can help save the planet? Join Dr. Silvia Tedesco, Associate Professor of Sustainability at the University of Salford, for an inspiring talk on how research and creativity are shaping a greener future.

Dr. Tedesco and her team at the Centre for Sustainable Innovation (CSI) are tackling some of today’s toughest environmental challenges, from cutting carbon in construction (a sector responsible for nearly 40% of global CO₂ emissions) to turning paper waste into concrete and renewable energy. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at real projects that put the circular economy into action, showing how materials that usually end up as waste can be transformed into valuable resources.

But this session isn’t just about research! It’s about how you can get involved. Through initiatives like ‘Your Miniature Green House’, students at Salford are becoming sustainability ambassadors: running fun, hands-on sessions in local schools, mentoring Year 5 pupils and showcasing eco-friendly design in action. You’ll also hear about opportunities to engage with world-class facilities like Energy House 2.0, a ‘living lab’ for testing green construction and energy solutions.

By joining in, you won’t just be learning about sustainability — you’ll be building skills that boost your CV, growing your confidence in communication and leadership, and making a real impact in the community. Plus, you’ll be part of the movement closing the engineering skills gap and helping inspire the next generation of problem-solvers.

So, if you’re curious about innovation, passionate about the environment, or just want to explore how your ideas could make a difference, this talk is for you. Come along and discover how together we can engineer a more sustainable future.

This session is particularly good for University of Salford engineering students who have the oportunity to support in ongoing work being done by Silvia.
