Event description

Description

Join the eLN in Manchester for a disruptive day of discussion about curation, consumer technology and the brain science of learning. The big question: how do we really learn new skills and solve problems in a digital world and what does that mean for learning technologies practitioners?

We have five great sessions lined up for you.

Content Curation: Your New Learning Superpower with Ben Betts, CEO, HT2 Labs and editor, "Ready, Set, Curate!"

The age of standardised learning is over. Your superpower in the age of context is to seek out content, make sense of it and share your understanding with others. Join Ben Betts, learning technologies innovator in multiple fields and TEDx presenter, as he shares both the mindset shift and practical steps necessary to embrace digital learning strategies that succeed in a world where context, not content, is king.

Turbo-Charging the Learning Experience with Stella Collins, Author, "Neuroscience in Learning and Development"

If we don’t build on, and improve, people’s innate skills of learning it’s like giving an ordinary driver the keys to a Formula One car and expecting them to win a Grand Prix. How would it be if your organisation was filled with skilled racing drivers rather than Sunday afternoon drivers? Turbo boost learning in your workplace with Stella's practical tips and techniques taken from the neuroscience and psychology of learning. Increase people’s awareness of how they process information, how memory really works and how to enhance their innate skills.

Learning in the Real World with Mark Berthelemy, CEO, Wyver Solutions

In this interactive session, Mark will explore the current significant differences between corporate learning and the learning that takes place every day outside of work. We will consider the typical artefacts of corporate learning, such as LMS's and SCORM packages, and consider how they stack up in a world that is now driven by user-centred design, trust networks and user-generated content. How can the world of corporate learning survive against such competition?

How to Make the Perfect Learning Recommendation with Chris Littlewood, Chief Scientific Officer, Filtered

Curation is now just as important as creation in learning design. But what makes a good learning recommendation? Join Chris Littlewood, Chief Scientific Officer at Filtered, as he explains the factors at play, different curation methods and how recommendations fit into the overall learning process. In this session Chris will also share fascinating insights emerging from Filtered's Innovate UK-funded project to develop and test different algorithms that make quality training recommendations.

The Secret Online Lives of UK Managers with James McLuckie, Director, GoodPractice

For a number of years, online learning solutions company GoodPractice has been undertaking an ongoing programme of manager-focused research. Its latest study takes a closer look at the secret, online lives of managers in the UK. James McLuckie will dig deep into the results of Google It: The Secret Online Lives of Managers. This fascinating report provides detailed insight into managers' online preferences and habits. Which social networks do they use most often and how useful do they find them? What content and usability attributes of websites most affect how frequently they get used? Are there any useful demographic variances in how managers use online tools to tackle workplace challenges? And, most importantly, how do these findings impact on us as online learning designers?

Complimentary lunch and refreshments will be served during the day.
