EMT -D and EMR -D Course

Learn how to be prepared and act confidently with the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with any diving based medical emergency.

The EMT - D Course is designed for all certified EMTs.

The EMR-D course is designed for all certified EMRs

(NON-US Medical personal may also take this course) If you do not have a medical qualification we suggest you take the Diver Emergency Responder course that starts on the 26th April to 30th April 2017 at the same location.


The EMT -D/ EMR-D course is field based only. We want you to put all of your skills learned as an EMT/EMR to be able to tackle any Diving Emergency and feel confident you did everything you could to help. We have a very busy schedule and you will be expected to do a number of real-life scenarios through the 2 days. This is the perfect course for those of you who may attend a Scuba Diving injury along the coast or at an inland Dive Site or even in your Emergency Department.

Diving Physics - Laws in Diving

  • Boyles Law
  • Charles Law
  • Universal Gas Equation
  • Henry's Law
  • Dalton's Law

Decompression Illness

  • History
  • Pathology and manifestation of DCI
  • Types of DCI
  • Recognition and managment of DCI
  • Understanding of treatment tables used in a recompression chamber
  • Neurological Assessment

Gas Toxicity

  • Hypercapnia
  • Oxygen Toxicity
  • Carbon Monoxide Toxicity
  • High Pressure Nervous Syndrome
  • Inert Gas Narcosis
  • Hydrocarbons/Breathing Gas Contamination

ENT

  • Ear Nose and Throat structures
  • Sinusitis
  • Reverse Block
  • Barotrauma to the ears
  • Recognition and management of injuries
  • Correct use of Otoscope

Lung Injuries

  • Pneumothorax
  • Tension Pneumothorax
  • Flail chest
  • Chest Injuries
  • Subcutaneous Emphysema
  • Arterial Gas Embolism
  • PFO

Marine Life Injuries

  • Trauma
  • Envenomation
  • Venomous Injuries
  • Other injuries
  • Treament of marine life injuries

Diving Emergency scenarios

We have a New Jersey state registered physician who is our Medical Director for this course.

What certificate will I get? The Diver Medic brings you this amazing course. You will receive a wall and card certificate valid for two years. EMT's will receive the EMT - D Certification and EMR's will Recieve a EMR-D Certification.

How much is the course? The cost of the course is $270.00 (Bermuda Special - Normally $350.00). You will receive a handout and wall certificate and certification card.
