Aim:
• Gain understanding of the development of early
communication, interaction and play and how best to support these areas
• Develop an understanding of strengths and differences in communication and interaction as experienced by autistic children at the earliest stages of communication (not yet spontaneous communicators)

• Exploration of the differences in the development of social interaction and communication in autistic children
• Introduction to (and demonstration of) a variety of interventions and strategies for developing early interaction skills, including Intensive Interaction and neuro-affirming approaches to play
• Introduction to and taster of a variety of early interaction approaches
• Examples of how to set up an early-skills social group, including demonstration of social games
• Opportunities to explore ways to adapt your current curriculum to include more communication and social interaction opportunities
• How to ensure a communication friendly environment
