Providing an enabling environment remains key to supporting better outcomes for children. An enabling environment supports children to feel confident to explore and allows practitioners to scaffold their learning. This course looks at how we can ensure our environments are highly stimulating with child-accessible resources. This will promote learning and how to challenge children both in and outdoors.

The Ofsted Early Years Inspection Handbook states: 147 “Practitioners and leaders create an environment that supports the intent of an ambitious and coherently planned and sequenced curriculum. The available resources meet the children’s needs and promote their focus on learning.”

A course full of fun, designed to enthuse practitioners to deliver inspirational environments to children particularly with the current COVID-19 restrictions in place.

This course has been prepared to help you support the children in your care with consideration of the current Covid-19 pandemic and its restrictions.

Course aims and objectives:-

• To teach the importance of the environment as the third teacher in the early years learning landscape

• Provide ideas on how to plan and prepare a range of open-ended activities that reflect the interests and development needs of specific children

• To look at organising and adapting your environment so that it is always inviting to the children

• To learn how to link the activities provided to ongoing planning and children’s next steps

Learning outcomes:-

• To recognise the importance of your learning environment in the provision of good early years care

• To be able to plan and prepare a range of open-ended activities that reflect the interests and development needs of the children in your care

• To succeed in organising and continually adapting the environment so that it is inviting to all children

• To be able to link the activities in the environment to your planning and children’s next steps
