Event description
Young ecologist Joshua Styles will take us through the experience of protecting and reinvigorating some of England's rarest plants

About this Event

In 2017, the North-West Rare Plant Initiative (NWRPI) was established with one overarching aim -- to re-establish and reinvigorate populations of some of northwest England's rarest plant species, including over 40 target species.

Since inception, the initiative has seen some astounding successes from reintroduction programmes, a few failures, and several obstacles. This lecture will summarise these experiences in more detail, with particular focus on rationale, methodology, outcomes and lessons .

Joshua is a driven botanist and keen science communicator. His efforts to halt the decline and extinction of rare plants is recognised and supported by organisations such as Chester Zoo, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Natural England, and the Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland.
