Encouraging the Take-Up of Data Analytics in Schools

Event Information

Analysing data is one of the most important skills in our society, and in this half-day conference we will provide innovative ideas for teaching data analytics in schools. This includes workshop sessions where we will share our experience of teaching data analytics and demonstrate our newly developed toolkit. Further our partners in the Met Office will reflect on the importance of data analytics skills to their own industry and to the Future of Work in general.

This half-day event will showcase free new teaching materials developed in partnership with colleagues in Spain and Turkey and developed in partnership with the ERASMUS+ strategic Partnerships Programme.


Timings


09.00 - 09.30: Registration, welcome refreshments

09.30 - 10.00: Keynote: The importance of data analytical skills for the Work of the Met Office and for the Future of Work. TBC Met Office

10:00 - 11:00: New developments in the teaching and learning of data analytics in schools. Dr Taro Fujita, Graduate School of Education, University of Exeter

11.00 - 11.30: Tea and Coffee break

11.30 - 13.00: Workshop Sessions exploring the use of a New Materials for teaching data analytics in Primary, Secondary and Post-16 Education. Sharing experiences of teaching data analytics in schools, demonstrations of tools for data analytics (e.g. CODAP) and a chance to hear form our Pilot Schools (Broadclyst Community Primary School, Exeter Mathematics School, St. James School Exeter and Exeter College)

13.00 - 14.00: Lunch and Networking

ALL ATTENDEES WILL NEED TO BRING A FORM OF PHOTO ID (A PASSPORT OR DRIVING LICENCE) ON THE DAY OF EVENT OTHERWISE ACCESS TO THE BUILDING WILL NOT BE GRANTED.
