End of Life Care - 'Symptom Management'

About the Course
This one day course is designed to update & equip qualified nurses & health professionals with evidence based knowledge and strategies to provide active holistic palliative care to patients with advanced progressive illness. It considers the role of the professional in symptom management and the provision of physical, psychological, social and spiritual support in order to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients and their families.
What will I learn
- How to identify, prevent and manage constipation & malignant bowel obstruction
- Understand the causes and treatment of nausea & vomiting
- Understand the impact of breathlessness in end of life patients and learn some techniques on how to manage this distressing symptom
- Revise palliative pain management & the choice & use of appropriate analgesia & adjuvant analgesia
- Update & discuss the role of symptom management in the last days of life
- Learn how to identify Lymphoedema & review oedema. Understand Lymphoedema skin care & management.
Who is it for?
Qualified nurses, care managers and any qualified health professionals working in care settings who care for people in the palliative and end stages of their lives.
What will the course look like?
Teaching is provided by a combination of lecturers from the community and by Palliative Medicine Consultants and Senior Clinicians from Saint Michael’s Hospice.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

All food served is freshly prepared on the premises. Kindly advise us in advance of the day of any special dietary requirements.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The nearest train station is Hornbeam Park which is on the main Leeds to York line. The station is a 10 minute walk from the hospice and offers easy access. Alternatively, should you choose to drive there is ample car parking available at the Hospice. See hospice web site for directions.

What's the refund policy?
Your place at the event will be confirmed following receipt of your booking and fee. If a delegate cancels attendance at a study session, a refund of 80% of the invoice value will be made provided a minimum of 30 days prior notice is given. If a delegate cancels attendance at a session, a refund of 50% of the invoice value will be made, provided a between 14-29 days prior notice is given. If a delegate cancels attendance at a study session with less than 14 days notice, no refund will be given and the delegate will remain liable for the full value of the course. If a delegate fails to attend a study session and no written notice of cancellation has been provided, the delegate will remain liable for the full value of the course
