OBJECTIVES

This seminar will provide an understanding of the present law in Scotland in relation to assisted dying – what is (and what is not) likely to be acceptable. It will cover:

  • The historical development of the law in relation to assisted dying
  • Recent developments in the law and relevant case law
  • Arguments surrounding assisted dying and possible future developments

PARTICIPANTS

This seminar will be of interest to all legal professionals (including paralegals). It may also be of interest to social workers who specialise in caring for elderly people.

SPEAKER

The speaker is John Kerrigan, Consultant, Morisons LLP. One of Scotland’s foremost authorities on Will drafting, John regularly speaks at conferences and seminars on the subject. He is a member of the Law Society of Scotland Sub-Committee on Trusts and Succession. As a Senior Tutor, he taught for 12 years at the Glasgow Graduate School of Law. Estate planning, tax mitigation and Powers of Attorney all fall under his scope, as well as the negotiations involved in contentious estates. John wrote ‘Drafting for Succession’ which is now in it’s second edition and compiled Greens’ styles of Powers of Attorney and Petitions for Financial Guardianship. He regularly writes articles for legal magazines and publications.
