Endemic: Discover the hidden wildlife found nowhere else on Earth.
Together Culture and Earth & Mind present a special book reading and talk with naturalist James Harding-Morris, hosted by Earth & Mind founder and Together Culture member Emma.
In his book, Endemic, naturalist James Harding-Morris explores Britain’s rarest and most remarkable native species. Determined to give these irreplaceable species their moment in the spotlight, James goes in search of them across the length and breadth of Britain, from wild and rugged Orkney, the only known location for the Orkney vole, down to suburban Plymouth where the horrid ground-weaver spider faces global extinction at the hands of developers. He seeks out alien fungi on the roadsides of Norfolk, explores Devon's depths in the hunt for ghostly cave shrimps, and traces the tribulations of interrupted brome, a grass that has gone extinct not once, but twice. Join James for a talk about the species only found in Britain.
Join Emma and James for an evening uncovering these extraordinary species and exploring the big questions: How many species are found only in Britain? What are they? And why aren’t they our number one priority?
