Description

Mercia EnviRecover Energy from Waste recently opened near Kidderminster and provides 15.5MW power to homes and businesses in neighbouring Worcestershire and Herefordshire, processing 200,000 te of municipal waste every year. The project won the 2016 IStructE Midland Counties Regional award for Industrial or Process structures.
The talk will cover:

  • A brief introduction to the project.
  • The energy-from- waste process and its impact on the civil & structural engineering design.
  • Some specific technical challenges and solutions at the EnviRecover site.

The speaker Jessica Monk is a Senior Structural Engineer in Arup’s multidisciplinary Buildings Midlands team at the Arup Campus. She is a Chartered Member of the ICE and has particular experience in concrete structures, industrial buildings and below ground structures. Jessica led the design of the waste storage bunker for the EnviRecover project to achieve a fast construction programme.
Paul Grosvenor joined Arup in 2014 from Galliford Try and has seen the EnviRecover plant through from start to finish. He designed the steel structure and foundations to house the energy-from-waste process, co-ordinating with the requirements of the process design and the phased construction programme.
