Event description
Another in a series of monthly online events from Time to Shine, today we will be taking a look at what works to engage men.

About this event

This event will take place online

Engaging men was often a difficulty for older people’s organisations in the past, with more women attending ‘open’ events like coffee mornings and lunch clubs. The work of Time to Shine projects which set out to engage older men, and more information in the media and from other Ageing Better areas about ideas like Men’s Sheds means there are now a range of tried and tested methods which can be used to engage men.

Men’s Health Unlocked has been working with men of all ages to talk about their health, and has ideas and strategies to share.

As Time to Shine moves into its seventh and final year we are running a series of events for older people's organisations. These events are of interest to anyone who works with older people, managers, paid workers and volunteers. The events will share the learning gathered from Time to Shine delivery partners in Leeds over the last six years, and will also include learning from the other 13 Ageing Better programmes. They will also involve you in discussion with colleagues about how you might use this learning in real life settings within your organisations.

The zoom link will be sent to you when you book. Please do encourage colleagues to join the event but ask them to book themselves so we can get an idea of numbers.

The event is free

The presentations are available as word documents for anyone using screen reading software, just ask.

Organiser Time To Shine, Leeds Older People's Forum

Organiser of Engaging Men - with Men’s Health Unlocked

Run by Leeds Older people's Forum, Time to Shine aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness of the older population in Leeds.

Time to Shine is one of fourteen areas which form Ageing Better ; and ambitious, large-scale programme funded and developed by the National lottery Community Fund. Ageing better aims to improve the life of people aged 50 and over by reducing social isolation and loneliness.

Time to Shine takes a very positive view on learning. We have developed a test and learn approach to finding out what works to reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst older people. The most important thing is to learn from this and use that learning to improve things in the future.
