Join us at Exeter University's beautiful Reed Hall for a day of discussion on how to use social media to connect and engage with your users. The day is aimed at practitioners from both FE and HE, and will include a social media cafe for attendees to share experience and demonstrate how they are using social media in their institutions.
Alan Turner, Subject Librarian at Arts University Bournemouth
Alan will be giving an overview of Piplit, a current project funded by the Centre of Creative Learning to support student reading using social media at AUB, with a specific focus on previous experimental social media projects within the library and alternative ways to use social media for libraries.
Alice Bouquet, Engagement Co-ordinator at UWE
Alice will be talking about how to create engaging content for social media, and discussing the different tools available for this.
Chris Gower, Creative Information Services Assistant at Exeter College
Chris will be discussing his experiences at Exeter College setting up and running social media. He will look at the reasons behind their choice in networks, how they run things on a daily basis and looking at challenges they've faced. One of the obstacles they have faced is having the time to post items, so he will also be looking at the tools and methods that they have used to save time
Mike Jones, Assistant Library Manager at Barton Peveril Sixth Form College
"The effectiveness of social media as a marketing tool for academic libraries". This will be an exploration of Mike's research into the experiences of sixth form and FE libraries in using social media tools to reach out to their users. See: http://lis.sagepub.com/content/early/2016/09/22/0961000616668959.abstract At the same time he surveyed the users of his own library to ask for their thoughts on the library's social media activities. Both of these lead to some interesting findings and some key changes to the library's approach to engaging with students via social media.
