Event description

Description

Engaging With Large and Strategic Funding Calls

e.g., Leverhulme Trust Research Centre, Global Challenges Research Fund, AHRC Clusters, Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Target audience: Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers with research/innovation track records, Center Leaders, Theme Directors.

Workshop description: Funders regularly announce calls to fund substantial projects or create research and training centres that often stipulate multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary involvement and may require institutional-level commitments. These awards are strategically important, high profile, very competitive and the University would like to support its staff in engaging with them. Principal Investigators on such calls are usually prominent and internationally established academic leaders with networks that extend beyond their own discipline. Although you may not currently be in a position to be the PI on an application, researchers with strong track records can be involved as a co-investigator or partner. This has a number of advantages as you can progress and develop your research and access funding, often for yourself and also for your research staff or PGRS and puts you on track to becoming a future PI on such proposals. Furthermore, as part of such major projects you can also develop additional skills and access equipment and resources via network partners, which can enhance your research profile and extend your network for future calls.

This workshop will look at practical steps you can take to get involved as either a Co-I, PI or partner on large and strategic bids including:

● Understanding the key issues around such major calls

Establishing and positioning yourself within your community and building trust

Building and maintaining your network

Understanding your skills and identifying where you could contribute
