This five session course is designed for people who live/work/volunteer in Wigan and Leigh who want to help shape the proposed National Nature Reserve (NNR) from the Wigan Flashes to Pennington Flash. By working with the local community, the Carbon Landscape is aiming to create the first NNR in Greater Manchester. Participants will receive a free resource pack for the course and so must provide their postal address details.

This course will explore the history of the landscape and how developing the landscape sustainably can impact the future. Participants will be given the opportunity to discuss the impact of creating a NNR and how the proposed NNR can be designed to benefit both the community and nature. Participants will be given the chance to visit Pearson's Flash through a virtual tour and learn about the vital restoration work taking place this winter. Participants will also gain wetland bird identification and surveying skills. By the end of this course, you will have a clear understanding of the proposed NNR, have voiced your opinion and ideas and be aware of future volunteering opportunities in the Carbon Landscape.
