This webinar will feature a review of the revised Education Inspection Framework (EIF) and handbook from Ofsted, which comes into effect in September 2019. The review will look specifically at where there are implications within the new framework for inspectors and schools concerning pupils who use English as an Additional Language (EAL).

Biography:

Mark Sims is one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors. He is a qualified teacher and holds a Masters of Arts qualification in bilingual education. He is Ofsted’s national lead for English as an Additional Language (EAL) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Before working for Ofsted, he gained extensive senior management experience in schools. As a senior local authority officer and head of a support service he worked closely with schools on equalities issues and raising achievement for vulnerable groups of pupils. He has particular expertise in leading inspections of schools and national surveys. The webinar uses Adobe Connect, for the best user experience please ensure you have the latest version of the Adobe Connect app installed on your device. We recommend that you access the session at 3.45pm on Thursday 19 September 2019 as the technical team will be available to assist if you have any questions.

When you receive the webinar URL please check that it takes you to the event room, if not, please email info@bell-foundation.org.uk. Please note that you will not be able to log in to the webinar event room in advance i.e. before 3.45pm on 19 September. Please check your ‘junk’ folder if you have not received this information 24 hours before the event.

We are aware that some participants are unable to attend the webinar on the day and as a result we over-issue tickets to ensure the session is full. Through our experience of hosting webinars we have calculated the likely drop out rate in order to have a full event, however, we do not want to disappoint people. Therefore, to be as fair as possible we admit ticket holders on a first come first served basis on the day. We will be most grateful if you would cancel your ticket if you know you will not be able to attend.
