Agenda
During the meeting, we will continue our focus on reading. When we last met, we focused on phonics: where people were at in relation to last year’s guidance (core criteria and reading framework) and their school’s plans for developing provision. It would be good to catch up on this at the start of this term’s meeting and share any findings, developments and queries.
We will then turn our attention to the bigger picture of reading and consider your ‘intent’ for your reading curriculum. Please come ready to share your reading intent, aspirations and ambitions for the pupils in your school. We will consider the key points of these and what this looks like in practice with the following discussion points:
• What is your ‘intent’ for the pupils in your school?
• Do you have a separate ‘intent’ statement for reading?
• What are the key points to affirm your ambition for your pupils’ reading?
• What is your journey towards your aims?
• What have you had to consider / examine / develop / change?
• How is this going?
We will also consider the opportunities our curriculum provides for the layers of reading - reading to children, reading with children and reading by children. Please come ready to share your curriculum’s provision for these layers - approaches, strategies and organisation, as well as how you select appropriate texts for each layer of reading.
Summary of points to consider prior to the meeting:
• Any development or questions related to phonics provision
• Your ‘intent’ for your reading curriculum – the key points, your journey towards them and what you have needed to develop
• Your provision for the layers of reading – approaches, organisation and text selection
• AOB (in advance if possible, please)
Please note this session is for ODBST schools only
