Description

English Literature Taster Lecture

'Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream: comedy and tragedy'

This event is part of our taster lecture series and will be delivered by Dr Daniel Swift. Daniel is Senior Lecturer in English at New College of the Humanities.

We look forward to welcoming current Year 12 and Year 13 students who are interested in studying English at degree level. If you are a school teacher and would like to bring a bigger group, then please email us on info@nchlondon.ac.uk for group bookings.

Please arrive from 17.30. The event itself will start at 18.00 and finish at around 19.00.

This interactive lecture will discuss how these two plays, one a tragedy and the other a comedy, form two halves of a single idea. They were written by Shakespeare contemporaneously, and share many plot elements; however one ends in tears and the other in laughter, and taken together they are a dramatic consideration of love and hatred, death and life.
