Laura Beatty, award-winning novelist and biographer
Laura’s first novel, Pollard, won the Authors' Club First Novel Award in 2008 and was shortlisted for the Ondaatje Prize. The Guardian wrote of it: “Beatty has a wonderful ear for voice, especially the voices of children… but what is really impressive is how she weaves her human comedy with the most powerful nature writing…The novel heralds an exceptional talent.” Laura has also written two biographies. Lillie Langtry, Manner, Masks and Morals used previously unpublished love letters to shed new light on the celebrated actress and royal mistress, while Anne Boleyn, The Wife Who Lost Her Head retold the tragic queen’s story for older children.
