People in Health West of England Learning and Development workshop: Enhanced Facilitation
In this workshop we’ll look at the planning required before facilitating an event, and the different roles involved in facilitation and co-facilitation.
The training also covers different ways of working and outlines strategies to overcome potential barriers / challenges to ensure that all meetings and / or workshops are effective.
Who can attend?
Anyone with an interest in public involvement in health and social care research, including public contributors, community organisations and researchers.
This event will be hosted online on Zoom; we will send a joining link at least a week before the workshop to the email address you used to register.
Presenters
This workshop will be delivered by Lucy Condon, Carmel McGrath and Louise Ting.
- Lucy Condon co-runs Bristol’s Gen-R Young People’s Advisory group (YPAG). As Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) Facilitator for the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) West, Lucy supports the organisation's public contributors and researchers with their public involvement practices ensuring public and patient voices are reflected throughout the organisation. She has a particular interest in how creative processes can be used within public involvement to help facilitate meaning practice.
- Carmel McGrath is a Senior Research Fellow in Public Involvement and co-leads public involvement across the NIHR ARC West and the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Evaluation and Behavioural Science. Carmel has experience of co-producing projects and training with public contributors who have a range of experiences and backgrounds. She co-leads People in Health West of England alongside Andy Gibson.
- Louise Ting has been involved in service delivery and health research from a patient and public perspective for over ten years and volunteering on different community projects since her teenage years. She has a passion for inclusion and ensuring that PPIE is meaningful for both researchers and public contributors. Louise is a member of the ARC West PPIE Strategy Group and also advises the NIHR on PPIE strategy and initiatives at national level.
About People in Health West of England
People in Health West of England (PHWE) are a University of the West of England-based organisation which exists to promote and facilitate patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in health research. We seek to promote a collaborative approach to the representation of the patient and public voice for better involvement, better research and better health outcomes for all.
The aims of these biannual workshops are to:
- Strengthen the PPIE community of practice across the West of England region in health and social care research
- Help clinicians, researchers and public contributors gain a better understanding of what PPIE is and involves
- Develop PPI skills and expertise
All workshops within this series are free, but spaces are limited.
