Join us for a practical, supportive workshop designed to help you strengthen your communication skills and approach every interaction with greater confidence and compassion.
Rooted in evidence-based principles, this one-day course introduces key strategies to support more effective conversations with patients, relatives, carers — especially in emotionally complex or high-pressure situations.
Through guided activities and interactive practice, you’ll explore techniques that promote empathy, clarity and connection. You’ll also have the opportunity to build your confidence in a safe learning environment, with expert facilitation and supportive
peer feedback. Whether you're looking to enhance everyday communication or better manage challenging conversations, this workshop will equip you with tools to communicate with kindness, professionalism and impact.
What will I learn?
- You will learn to recognise the relevance of emotions and the importance of establishing your concerns to provide effective care
- We will discuss the barriers to compassionate communication currently experienced
- We will identify transferable communication strategies for difficult situations such as handling distress or anger, end of life conversations, difficult questions and complexinformation giving
How will I learn?
The interactive workshops are facilitated using the latest research-based approaches in a supportive environment. They are both interactive and experiential allowing you the opportunity to practise different skills through observation and interaction in a safe supportive environment

- Your place will only be confirmed when The Christie receives payment or the production of an official purchase order. Please DO NOT book a place unless you have approval from your manager AND confirmation that your trust are willing to pay your delegate fees.
- Once your place is confirmed, you will be notified by email. Please ensure that we hold a valid email address and mobile contact number for you.
- Payment must be made before the course commences. We reserve the right to cancel a booking in the case of non-receipt of payment.
- Joining instructions will be sent via email two to four weeks before the course commences.
- Maguire cannot be held responsible for any failure of delegates’ equipment or internet connection. We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity for a test call prior to the workshop (contact the-christie.maguire.unit@nhs.net to arrange this).
- In the event of a cancellation: A charge of 25% of the course fee will be made for cancellations up to 6 weeks prior to the workshop date; a charge of 50% of the course fee will be made between 4 and 6 weeks prior to the workshop; no refund will be given for cancellation within 4 weeks of the workshop; suitable replacement delegates will be accepted up to 3 working days prior to the course.
