Event description

Description

Bereavement is an unavoidable part of the human experience and one which as a society, we are arguably often ill-equipped to deal with. People who have been bereaved commonly say that their grief was met by avoidance, silence, (well-meaning) clichés and unhelpful advice from those around them. Unsurprisingly perhaps, bereavement is one of the most common reasons that people seek counselling support.

This interactive workshop will introduce you to key models of grief that can help underpin your work with clients around bereavement and loss. We will explore how you can be with clients in their grief and how creative methods for working with bereavement can be used to facilitate exploration and understanding.

We will also briefly consider how we as counsellors can work safely with our experiences, emotions and cognitions around bereavement within the counselling room.

Polly Singer is a qualified Integrative Counsellor (Dip. Couns) and former student of The Academy: SPACE. She is a counsellor, supervisor and Accredited Trainer for Cruse Bereavement Care. She is also an accredited Pregnancy and Infant Loss Counselling Professional (Foundation for Infant Loss Training). Polly runs Crossgate Counselling and Training (www.crossgatecounsellingsheffield.co.uk) which offers training courses in subjects such as mental health, wellbeing and bereavement within Corporate and Further Education settings. She has a private counselling practice based in Nether Edge, Sheffield.
