About this event

The figure of the Buddha fascinates us. We find him in living rooms, gardens, shops, and wellness spas – yet there is not just one of him. The exhibition "Enlightened – The Realm of the Buddhas" at the Museum der Kulturen in Basel reveals the diverse nature of Buddhism, and displays objects that are significant in the practice of this widespread religion.

Just as there is no one Buddha, so there are many paths that lead to spiritual enlightenment — as the title of the exhibition suggests. Dating back over 2000 years, Buddhism has many strands, gender and poses exemplified by some 280 objects from the museum’s own collection which are significant in the practice of Buddhism.

Join us on this tour of the manifold aspects to Buddhism and its close relationship to politics with curator Stephanie Lovász.

Art over Lunch is a monthly event series for members of Asia Society Switzerland. Each time, we visit an exhibition or a special part of a collection with artists, curators and experts for 45 minutes followed by a small lunch. The tours are designed to give members a different view on the vast troves at the museums and galleries in the city of Zurich and provide an opportunity to mingle and discuss.

Art over Lunch is made possible with the support of Bergos.
