Event description

Description

Purpose of event

In a postmodern era, Universities are facing unprecedented challenges to uphold freedom of speech against the status quo of political correctness. Is it becoming impossible for Christian academics to profess their faith and their perspective without getting shouted down or even dismiised? Or is it time we celebrated the enrichment that Christian academics can, and do, provide to the culturally diverse sector with widespread thought?

This is the theme of the next C-A-N- conference.

Why come

To find new positive ways in which you as a Christian can enrich your University environment and your discipline.

Bring your own questions / concerns / issues and, together, we can learn from each other.

Outcomes

The aspiration of the day is enable each one of us to be encouraged and better equiped to be effective, wise and fruitful in our academy in our teaching, research and witness.

Venue and Directions

We are currently in discussions with several Universities in central London about a venue. Whilst having received a positive response they aer unable to confimr a boooking until later their own requirements for A/W 2019 are confirmed. However we can say with confidence that the venue will be in central Lodon

What is included in the cost

The cost has been kept to a minimum to enable as many people to attend as possible. (The cost of the venue has been subsidised.)

Drinks will be provided. Delegates will need to bring their own packed lunch.

Ros Turner: Transform Work UK
Ros will share how, by positively responding to equality and diversity, instead of being discriminated against, Christian Work Groups can be a positive witness as part of celebrating diversity in work

Rachel Owusu- Amkomah: Christian Medical Fellowship
Christian medical doctors have found themselves in the frontline of political correctness/equality and diversity following the recognition of transgender by professional bodies covering paediatrics and endocrinology. How should they engage the issues and what could that teach us if we face the same or similar issues?

The schedule is flexible. Presentations will be given by academics and other speakers who have either contributed to their discipline faced with the status quo, but also we will hear from others who have been active as Christians within shaping equality and diversity practice.
