Essential Training for Community Nurses

This comprehensive training programme is designed to equip community nurses with the essential knowledge and practical skills required for the safe and effective management of enteral feeding tubes and stoma care in community settings.

Key Learning Areas

1. Infection Control

  • Hand hygiene and aseptic techniques
  • Preventing and managing infections related to enteral feeding and stomas
  • Safe cleaning and maintenance of feeding equipment

2. Nasal and Abdominal Feeding Tube Care

  • Maintaining tube patency and preventing blockages
  • Safe administration of bolus feeds and medications
  • Weekly balloon water changes (BGT/LPD)
  • Weekly advancement and rotation of PEG tubes
  • Managing tube displacements

3. Stoma Care

  • Routine stoma site care and skin protection
  • Identifying and managing complications (e.g., irritation, leakage, granulation tissue)
  • Supporting patient education and self-care strategies

4. Pump Feeding

  • Setting up and programming Infinity V.2 and V.3 feeding pumps
