The University of Birmingham would like to invite you to the latest Enterprising Birmingham Showcase – the final stage of our biennial Innovation Competition which will take place on Wednesday 29th March 2017 at the University of Birmingham.
Enterprising Birmingham celebrates the culture of innovation at one of the most prestigious universities in the region. The competition nurtures and develops innovative ideas and rewards enterprising researchers who have identified a solution to real world problems based on their research. These are some of the University’s best innovators – and the winning entries may well be the commercial success stories of tomorrow.
The Enterprising Birmingham Final Showcase promises to be an exciting demonstration of the University’s most disruptive research projects combined with entrepreneurial spirit as the finalists pitch their ideas to a Dragons’ Den style judging panel for a £20,000 investment.
This year’s event will showcase the breadth and impact of our enterprising research to a diverse audience of University staff as well as alumni, public and private sector partners, funders, investors and the Birmingham business community.
Our opening keynote speech will be given by Richard Bishop, Investor in Growth Businesses and University of Birmingham Alumnus. Richard has 25 years’ experience of private equity, investing in growth businesses in the UK and internationally; and now works directly as an investor and chairman of several companies. Our second keynote will be by entrepreneur and alumna, Dr Samantha Decombel on the challenges and rewards of co-founding FitnessGenes– an online DNA analysis platform.
We do hope that you will join us for an inspiring afternoon to celebrate the creativity, entrepreneurial flair and academic endeavour of the University of Birmingham.
A buffet lunch, refreshments and drinks reception will be provided for all guests, as well as the opportunity to network with our innovative researchers, and specially invited guests from the world of business and the public sector.
