Enton Barefoot - author reading
Event Information
About this Event
Enton Barefoot grew up in the 1980s, within a large, loving family. By 2007 he was sleeping rough and scavenging for food from skips.
The gritty story of how his life was torn apart by reckless consumption of drugs and alcohol, and his inspiring recovery, is told in his autobiography, Laid Bare, published this month. It breaks many of the stereotypes of how people become addicts and street homeless.
On Thursday, February 6th, Enton will be at Langan’s Tea Rooms, George Street, Burton, to read extracts from his book, which contains adult themes. The event starts at 4.30pm for 5pm. Enton will donate 20% from any sales of his book on the night to the O’Connor Gateway Charitable Trust.
"A shining example"
The book has won the support of Noreen Oliver MBE, founder and chief executive of the Burton-based BAC O’Connor addiction treatment centre and caught the attention of Hollywood A-Lister Russell Brand and actor Stephen Graham.
Noreen said: “This is a brave and powerful story by an inspiring individual. Enton’s book provides us all with a shining example of how recovery can be achieved and how, despite the most difficult circumstances, it’s possible to face and overcome the challenges that addiction presents.”
"An emblem of hope"
After being introduced to Enton by Burton-based writer Elaine Pritchard - who has worked as editorial consultant on his book - Noreen shared Enton’s manuscript with BAC O’Connor supporter Russell Brand and arranged a meeting between the two men. Russell described Laid Bare as an astonishing story of the power of recovery in people’s lives and added: “Enton’s life can serve as an emblem of hope. Change and salvation are always possible.”
Another fan is actor Stephen Graham, who read the manuscript along with his wife Hannah. Stephen said: “Enton’s journey into recovery is honest, uplifting and truly inspirational ... a book that’s good for your soul.”
Enton said: “Comments like these really make the time it’s taken to write the book worthwhile. My biggest wish now is that it helps someone who’s going through addiction or who’s started on the path of recovery. If I can help just one person via this book then I’ll be a very, very happy man indeed.”
“I am absolutely blown away by the support and encouragement from both Noreen and Russell and the reading night is a very small thank you for their time, generosity and support.”
