Environmental Challenges in Myanmar Workshop
The Oxford-Myanmar Policy Brief Series is convening a workshop entitled “Environmental Challenges in Myanmar: Protection, Development and Political Considerations” to focus on environmental challenges in Myanmar, bringing together subject matter experts, regional experts, Myanmar experts, and representatives from the Myanmar government, private sector, diplomatic service, and civil society, to address these pressing topics.
Of the many challenges facing Myanmar’s new National League for Democracy-led government, environmental difficulties are some of the most daunting and will require extensive reforms. They also require significant expertise, necessary for effective analysis and for proposing and implementing solutions. We are especially happy to be welcoming Director Generals from Myanmar’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation as well as Members of Myanmar’s Parliament working on environmental issues.
Topical panels will feature expert analysis and policy recommendations in different areas, including water and rivers, mining and jade, conservation and biodiversity, agriculture and food security, forestry, energy, and urban development. A final panel will incorporate practitioner experience to assess the recommendations and discuss implementation and funding strategies as well as some of the challenges faced by policy-makers in Myanmar.
Attendance at the workshop is open to all, but space for lunch is limited. Please sign up soon if you wish to join us for a sandwich lunch.
