Description
Food's planetary environmental impacts and an integrated solution.
Recently more and more research appears about the impact of our food on the environment. Join us in this talk exploring a solution to food's staggering toll on the earth. Based on data on 40,000 farms in 120 countries we will discuss mandatory environmental labels - displaying emissions, pesticide toxicity, water use, and impact on biodiversity. How can we make producers accountable for their impacts; support effective taxes and subsidies; and drive the essential transition away from meat and dairy?
Joseph Poore graduated with an MA and MPhil in Land Economy from the University of Cambridge, where he now runs the annual Denman Lecture series. Following this, he worked for 4 years leading strategy consultancy on projects addressing resource, allocation, profitability, growth and risk. Currently, he is a student on the Environmental Research Doctoral Training Partnership at Oxford University. You can find a link to his most recent paper here: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/360/6392/987
Free wine, soft drinks and vegan food will be provided - with a great opportunity for networking after the talk.
NOTE: The lecture is fully booked and those who have a ticket will get priority for entry. The reason for this is numbers are limited due to health and safety reasons. If you do not have a ticket, your welcome to try your luck, but won't be allowed entry until 6:50. I still encourage you to still watch the talk online here:
One of the best aspects of the lecture series is the discussion afterwards over drinks and vegan food. If you would like to join us after the lecture, you are more than welcome!
