Description

This session is designed to help museum staff and volunteers understand how collections are affected by environmental changes and pest damage and how to deal with these situations.

9.30-10:00am – Arrival, please park in the main carpark and come to the entrance of the museum

10.00 – 12.15

  • Introductions
  • The agents of deterioration
  • How to monitor light, temperature and relative humidity
  • The effects of incorrect environment on collections
  • Controlling the environment

12:15 - 13:15 LUNCH - provided

13:15 - 15:30

  • Types of pests harmful to museum collections
  • Pest Monitoring – types of traps and where to locate them
  • Pest identification exercise
  • Pest Prevention
  • Treatment of affected items

15:30 – 16.00 – Summary, Q&A and finish
