Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

This annual lecture, made possible by generosity of friends and supporters, commemorates the contribution of Adrian Fernando, COO of EcoSecurities Group plc, a company conceived to tackle climate change based on the idea of using market mechanisms to properly price the environment. EcoSecurities developed more than 400 greenhouse gas emission reduction projects in 36 countries, representing approximately 10% of all projects approved by the United Nations under the Kyoto Protocol’s market based mechanisms. EcoSecurities’ largest office was in Oxford, from where Adrian led a team addressing climate change through the use of economic tools and business solutions, demonstrating that the environment is a valuable asset deserving of a market price that reflects its scarcity and its long term value. We hope that this lecture will be a fitting tribute to Adrian and serve to recognise his family, friends, and community for their support of the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment.

The lecture will be presented by William K Reilly, a leading Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency under President George H. W. Bush. Throughout his illustrious career, he served as president of World Wildlife Fund, as a founder or advisor to several business ventures, and on many boards of directors. In 2010, he was appointed by President Barack Obama co-chair of the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling to investigate the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
