Eoin O'Callaghan (Musician, Screenwriter, Composer, Producer) - Artist Talk
Overview
Eoin O’Callaghan is a Northern Irish composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his innovative blend of electronica, acoustic, and classical music. Operating under the moniker Elma Orkestra, he creates cinematic soundscapes that explore themes of identity, place, and culture. His work often involves experimenting with analogue instruments and unique recording techniques, positioning him as both an artist and an architect of sound.
O’Callaghan's film and television compositions include the critically acclaimed and BAFTA winning BBC series Blue Lights, which follows rookie police officers in Belfast, and the six-part series Art Detectives, a crime drama produced by Dynamic Television that stars Stephen Moyer and Nina Singh. On its debut in the US it was the most streamed show in Acorn TV’s history and has now launched in the UK, Europe and around the world.
In 2019, O’Callaghan released the album Borders in collaboration with Ryan Vail. This audio-visual project, which explores the concept of a world without borders, won the Northern Ireland Music Prize for Best Album. Beyond his solo work, O’Callaghan has collaborated with artists such as Moya Brennan, Ryan McMullan, Guillem Balague, Stephen James Smith and Mar Lara.
