Event description
A discussion+action forum for Exeter performance makers and supporters.

About this Event

On Thursday August 29th, we are launching a discussion+action forum for Exeter performance makers and organisations across disciplines and scales. The forum is called Exeter Performance in Conversation (EPIC).

We are seeing it as topic-driven forum held on a monthly basis  (similar to Exeter Visual Arts Forum and Music & Sound Forum).

EPIC #1 on 29/8 will be covering the subject of creating & running producing/incubating spaces.

(To have your say on the next EPIC discussions, fill in the google form here.)

GUESTS:

//Jessica Hanna joins EPIC to discuss her work at Bootleg Theatre in Los Angeles as a Producing and Managing Director.

HOSTS:

//Olya Petrakova will share her experiences creating & running Schkapf, Performance Incubation House in Los Angeles, and together with Charlotte Evans they will talk about future Artists Development schemes at Maketank in Exeter.

Besides short sharing presentations from our guests and hosts, this session will tackle the following questions in the discussion format:

1. Exploring existing producing models and brainstorming new models for creating vibrant and dynamic work in the cities.

2. How can new models involve people of various disciplines and walks of life.

3. What kind of talent development strategies does Exeter need.

4. What role does community play in producing hubs.

5. What type of partnerships can hubs be forging with the existing community groups, social enterprises and other non-arts partners?

Bootleg Theater is a year-round inclusive art space for original, boundary-defying live theater, music, and dance performances born from the diverse cultural and artistic landscape of Los Angeles. Bootleg supports and collaborates with the best of established and emerging music, theater, and dance artists to create daring multi-disciplinary live experiences that are striking, contemporary and non-traditional.

EPIC's MISSION is to bridge the gaps in information accessibility, to foster grassroots civic engagement with current developments in cultural sector, and to strengthen connectivity and retention of artists in the city.

While EPIC will be kick-started by Maketank, it will exist independently, empowered by community efforts. If you are interested in participating in further development of this project's framework, please contact Olya Petrakova at olya@maketank.org.uk.

We want to ensure that EPIC is inspired/driven by the community's involvement, thus we have designed a survey with a series of questions and propositions to scope out the most burning topics of the day for its monthly forums, and most importantly - to get a better idea for monthly meetings dates/times that serves Exeter performance makers.
