Creative England has teamed up with the University of Plymouth and partners to deliver EPIC, a three year collaborative project to improve the use of technology in health and social care in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The project is partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund with additional financial support from the South West Academic Health Science Network.

Speaker Biographies

Jowanna Conboye; Associate; Stephens Scown LLP

Jowanna Conboye is an Associate in the IP & IT Team at law firm Stephens Scown LLP. She is an expert in advising businesses on every aspect of their technology contracts including outsourcing, software development, agile, IP asset ownership, platform operating terms, SLAs, SAAS and End User Licence agreements. Jowanna also advises organisations from start-ups and SMEs to large organisations operating internationally on their GDPR compliance including negotiating terms with third party data processors and drafting data transfer and data sharing agreements.

Jowanna has recently advised a large national social enterprise on the £5m outsourcing of its IT provision. She is currently advising a start-up business on the creation of an innovative software platform for the music industry and advising an international certification body on the creation of a new app for surveying users of customer services.

Richard Tyler; Senior Tax Manager; PKF Francis Clark

Richard is a corporate taxes specialist and a member of the firm’s innovation and technology tax group focusing on tax issues associated with intellectual property, R&D tax credits, the patent box regime and tax reliefs for creative industries.

Richard is also experienced in advising on corporate taxes more generally including corporate reconstructions, family successions, capital allowances and complex corporation tax matters

Richard will review the valuable tax reliefs available to innovative companies under the R&D tax credits and other schemes. Find out if your company could qualify for these reliefs, how much they could be worth to your business and how to claim them.

Rachel Thomson; Business Manager; Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Investment Fund

Rachel is an experienced commercial lending & relationship manager, helping businesses in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly to prosper & succeed. Living and working in Cornwall, Rachel loves the area and being involved with her local community. She understands Cornwall and the positives of this beautiful county along with the challenges that businesses face.

Rachel is genuinely interested in businesses and the people who run them and she cares about helping them to prosper and succeed benefiting the local community.

Jackie George; Business Finance Specialist; Access to Finance

Cornish born and bred, Jackie started her career with the Royal Navy where she gained considerable leadership and team working experience. Here, she developed her project management, analytical and problem-solving skills.

In 2001, she moved back to Cornwall to pursue a career in economic development. She has led project development teams, attracted significant amounts of investment, delivered a number of projects, undertaken large community consultations and organised large-scale events.

Jackie joined Oxford Innovation as a Business Coach in 2016 and now works as a Finance Specialist on the Access to Finance programme, bringing invaluable knowledge in securing grant investment from European, national and regional grant regimes as well as lottery funders and charitable trusts.
