Description

Early Intervention & Prevention in Children & Young People Mental Health

This half day, interactive training course works with simulated patients to help build confidence and skills in assessing and responding to mental illness in young people.

Designed around case studies, there is the opportunity for attendee's to practice skills, using simulated patients, and reflect as a group on how we may support young people, thinking specifically about responding to high emotional distress, assessing risks and engaging the family in management.

The course is suitable for all clinical professionals working in primary care- doctors, nurses, allied health professionals

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course those attending will:

  • Feel more knowledgeable in the identification of mental illness.
  • Feel more comfortable in how to manage and respond to emotional distress and high risk situations.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the challenges and benefits that can arise when working with families and networks
  • Feel confident working with families collaboratively to improve the health and wellbeing of the child.
