Description

‘Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens’ Carl Jung

Would you like to

  1. Deepen your meditation practice?
  2. Free your inner artist?
  3. Have space to reflect with others on where your creativity is leading you?

These Monday night sessions, run by Hil Bichovsky, will combine meditation, a brief introduction to one specific art technique a week, and time for free painting, exploration and for sharing/reflection.

In the sessions you will be supported and encouraged to experiment and play, and each week Hil will offer a technique – for instance collage, monoprinting, wax resist, working into wet paper. You will then have time to use that technique and/or to do your own free work.

We will begin the sessions with a centering meditation for 15 minutes or so, then you will use the materials for about an hour, then we will wash up and tidy the workspace, before bringing a cuppa into the circle, for about half an hour, to speak, listen and look. Sessions are two hours long.

The hope is that this format will nourish you to make some pictures, and also to speak about whatever this process brings up for you. The format may evolve and change, according to the needs of the group.

£8 per session includes basic materials and paper – you are also free to bring your own materials. Tea and coffee is included.

Tutor: Hil Bichovsky DYTT, BFA Oxon Dist.

She has an art degree from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art but is really more interested in what frees up creativity for people. This winter she was at The European Institute for Applied Buddhism, a monastery in Germany, and attended a ‘Meditative Painting’ course, which has inspired this venture.

Hil has more than thirty years experience of meditation and a lifelong love of making pictures – many years ago she did some art therapy training at Sheffield University though she didn’t complete it: “I loved the process, however. In fact it gave me back my creativity which had been somewhat knocked out by the competitiveness and ego of art school. I have always remained grateful to the basic principles of art therapy for allowing me to enjoy painting and drawing again. So perhaps this course might be a good place to come to recover from art school training!”
