Event Details

This is a joint meeting of

i)  EPSRC Grand Challenge Network+ in Proton Therapy. This network aims to build a new multidisciplinary community to work together in the field of proton beam therapy (PBT).  The NHS has invested £250M in two new multi-gantry state of the art PBT centres, the first of which, will treat its first patients in Manchester in 2018.  The Network aims to bring together clinicians, hospital physicists and radiographers, industry, patient representatives and policy makers with scientists and engineers from the engineering and physical sciences community.  The Network has funding to support proof of principle projects, travel for early career researchers, proton beam access both in the UK and internationally.  Details of how to gain access to this funding will be provided at the meeting.

ii) promote the STFC Global Challenge Network+ in Advanced Radiotherapy, bringing together cancer clinicians with scientists and engineers from the STFC community, to share expertise and develop new research synergies and collaborations. At this meeting there will be an opportunity for the community to decide upon the topic and who will host the next Grand Challenge Sandpit event (~£100k).

Participants wishing to suggest a sandpit topic are invited to present a 2 minute elevator pitch on 21st September. Please contact Professor Karen Kirkby (karen.kirkby@manchester.ac.uk) for further information and to confirm intent to present . Further details can also be found here.
