Event description

Description

You are invited to attend the evening celebratory dinner of the EPSRC UK National Mass Spectrometry Facility (NMSF) 30th Anniversary Symposium, at the National Waterfront Museum on Monday 10th July from 7pm.

The aim of the evening is to celebrate the history and longevity of mass spectrometry and the NMSF at Swansea, including former guises. It has been 30 years since the UK service centre was set up, first as the SERC Mass Spectrometry Centre. This later became the EPSRC National Mass Spectrometry Service Centre (NMSSC), and in 2012 became NMSF.

It has also been 40 years since Prof. John Beynon FRS set up the Royal Society Research Unit; John had a massive influence on modern mass spectrometry, most notably accurate mass measurement, required for publication of small novel compounds.

The evening celebration will feature an after dinner speech entitled ‘Mass Spectrometry in Swansea’ by Prof. Emer. Gareth Brenton, former Director of NMSF.

Menu for the celebration will be:

Starters:

Severn and Wye smoked salmon with its own brandade and horseradish cream

Or

Baked courgette stuffed with orange, pine nuts and herbs (v)

Mains:

Rump of lamb studded with garlic, rosemary and anchovies

Or

Caerphilly cheese and lemon ravioli, fresh pesto (v)

Dessert:

Sticky bara brith pudding, spiced toffee sauce, Pembrokeshire vanilla ice cream

Earlier in the day a Symposium will take place which will highlight past, current and future capabilities and expertise in mass spectrometry by having a variety of speakers including former employees and significant current facility users. Looking forward, we also want to showcase the facility with local and national academics and businesses for future research and commercial projects, therefore the symposium will feature a trade fair running throughout the day including a poster session which student attendees from the subsequent Summer School are invited to present.

Find out more about the Symposium and to register for the day event please visit; http://nmsf.swan.ac.uk/nmsf30.
