Parental leave is an important social determinant of pregnancy, maternal and infant health. Did you know …

  • More than 1 million new neural connections are formed every second in a young child’s brain

  • 40% of workers are not entitled to a single day of job protected parental leave
  • 40% of 5 year olds entering kindergarten are not ready to learn

But, parental leave is associated with:

  • 9 – 10% reductions in infant mortality
  • Decrease in abusive head trauma
  • Lower levels of family stress and depression
  • Higher wages when children are age 30
