Event description

Description

Dear all,

Equaliteas are being held all over the country this summer, to mark 90 years since the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act 1928 became law, which granted equal voting rights to men and women over the age 21.

We’ll be holding our own Equalitea in London and Leeds, to commemorate this occasion. Come along to learn more about the fight for women’s suffrage, discuss why you value equality, play a voting quiz, and of course, have some tea and cake.

You might ask, what part does tea have to play in the campaign for equal votes? Historically, tea parties were hotbeds of political activism. It was one of the few ways women could meet without men to discuss and plan. The leading suffrage organisations used tea parties and tea shops as central elements in their campaigning. They were excellent spaces to increase awareness, discuss tactics and raise money.

All are welcome, join us:
